Frequently Asked Questions

Who participates in the Golf Challenge?
The field is open to anyone who would like to play. The Golf Challenge is played in foursomes. You can register as a single player or you can register with a friend as a twosome and be placed in a foursome. Contact us for more information about registering to play.

What are the responsibilities of a Captain?
Captains recruit their own team and take the responsibility for communication with their foursome. The captain also takes the lead in establishing the team's financial goals.

Do I need a handicap?
No - NCGA handicaps are used for competition during the day. Those without a handicap will be assigned one based on their level of play. Individual scores will only come into play for low gross plus net round.

Do I need to be in great shape?
No - The day is not a survival test. We do play 36 holes of golf starting with breakfast. We play at a relaxed pace and you will drive your cart on the fairway. You will be tired at the end of the day, but not exhausted. We limit the number of players to 18 foursomes. The course is closed for the day, so we can maintain a good pace of play.

What do I need to bring?
You will need your clubs and the expectation of a great day of golf with your friends. We will supply your first dozen golf balls.

Do I need to eat before I come?
No - Breakfast will be served upon your arrival and lunch will be served at the clubhouse when you make the turn. The evening will conclude with a wonderful dinner and short awards program. The courtesy carts will be stocked with candy bars, fruit, sodas, bottled water, sunscreen, etc. Hopefully, this will take care of you while you are on the course.

What are the tee prizes for the Golf Challenge?
Tee prizes for this year will be a gift certificate for each player who participates.

What are the prize levels for the teams?
Each team competes as a unit and will be awarded a team prize based on the overall funds raised. The team prizes for this year will be awarded at the $5,000, $8,000, $15,000, and $25,000 levels.

How do I raise funds?
1) Remember you are raising funds to help kids. Set a goal that will cause you to smile when you reach it.

2) Make a list of friends, business associates and groups you belong to who believe in helping young people. (Include all friends who golf.) Make a list of businesses that may be willing to sponsor you in this event. Check with your own company on matching gift programs.

3) Determine how much you are willing to give.

We have supplied a sample letter for you in the Information Packet on the players' page to send to your sponsors along with information on Youth for Christ/Campus Life programs. We suggest you make your list, send your letter and follow up with a phone call within a week. Include a return envelope to your home or office so you can keep track of the people who have responded to your request. (The hardest part of raising funds is making the first call.)

When do we turn in the funds?
You will turn in funds on or before the day of the Golf Challenge. Most of the players bring the funds they have raised on the morning of the event. Players will turn in funds to their Captain and the Captain will turn in the funds for the team. The donations will be receipted and a letter sent to the donors thanking them for their gift and giving them a report on the day.

Is YFC paying an outside fundraising fee for this event?
No - The funds raised go directly to the organization; there are no consultant or outside management fees. The Golf Challenge is managed and staffed with a volunteer committee.

Are funds contributed tax deductible?
Yes - We will give you an accounting of the items and their value at the end of the event and a receipt for the amount of the donation.

How will the funds be used?
YFC has designated the Golf Challenge to fund staff positions and programs to work with young people.
